Derwent Valley

Welcome to the Derwent Valley u3a

We are a local group of the national organisation of the u3a, which encourages retired/semi retired people to life long learning. To learn new knowledge and skills, to stay active and make the most out of life in an environment of friendship and fun.

We are a very friendly group that serves the Whickham and surrounding areas but we welcome anyone who would like to become a member. We just ask as a member you embrace the ethos of the u3a of “Learn, Live, Laugh”.

Monthly Meetings

We meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 10.00am at St. Mary’s Centre, Church Chare, Whickham. We have a great diversity of speakers at our meetings, where we socialise with a cuppa over some very interesting topics. Two months of the year August and December we have a coffee morning where we are entertained with a show performed by our own Derwent Valley Players group. In January our monthly meeting is replaced with a New Year lunch, which is held at one of the many local/ hotels in the area.

Membership

Our membership fee is £25.00 per year which allows members to attend monthly meetings and as many of the activity groups as they wish. We currently have 111 members and we are always looking for new members to join. There are 12 activity groups, all activities are organised by our members who donate their skills and expertise voluntarily.

If you wish to join Derwent Valley or find out about us please come along to one of our monthly meetings or contact our Membership secretary.
